Tao Te Ching The Tao Te Ching is a Chinese classic text written around 400 BC and traditionally credited to the sage Laozi. The Tao Te Ching, is a fundamental text for both philosophical and religious Taoism. It also strongly influenced other schools of Chinese philosophy and religion, including Legalism, Confucianism, and Chinese Buddhism, which was largely interpreted through the use of Taoist words and concepts when it was originally introduced to China. Many artists, including poets, painters, calligraphers, and gardeners, have used the Tao Te Ching as a source of inspiration. Its influence has spread widely out and it is one of the most translated texts in world literature. The classic Tie and Virtue and its new translation have now received an updated version. In this institution, the Finnish translator TaoLin has further refined the language, supplemented some points and generally revised text, so that it adheres even more strictly to the legality of the original text. The goal has remained the original: to bring Laotse’s text and its poetry to the Finnish language in as pure a form as possible. TaoLin has translated Lao Tzu’s work in a fresh and simple way – the mystical is comprehensible, the functional understandable. Taoism, that doctrine born about four hundred years before the beginning of time, is divided into religion and philosophy, the latter of which transcends cultural traditions and conceptual boundaries. Writer and poet TaoLin lives in Finland and writes in Finnish. Until now, she has published two novels, two poetry books and collection of short stories. Her first novel Suomen taivaan alla was nominated for the Helsingin Sanomat literary award.
